Dustin Ackley

Dustin Ackley played from the North Carolina Tarheels and is also a native of N.C. Ackley quickly made his mark as one of the top collegiate hitters by claiming All-America honors for two seasons in a row (among other rewards and recognition). In 2007 Dustin boasted a 28-game hitting streak which lasted the majority of that college baseball season. Dustin’s Father played baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization and is a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ackley was picked as the second pick in the 2009 draft by the Seattle Mariners who expected him to move quickly. Dustin plays both the outfield and first base. Ackley was easily considered as the best hitter in the 2009 draft and the Mariners are extremely excited to have added them to their arsenal. Dustin is a lefty and had a career .410 average at North Carolina with 22 home runs and 70 RBI in his final college season.

At a solid 6’1″ 184 pounds Ackley is expected to add some power but definitely some numbers to the Seattle Mariners’ offense. Also represented by Strasburg’s agent Scott Boras. Despite his representation, Dustin proved that he remains down to Earth when he was questioned about the 2009 draft and his order in it. Ackley simply responded that his current team needs to get back into the College World Series and that was his current focus.
