Freddie Freeman

The second Southern Californian highlighted in our Players to Watch section was born in Fountain Valley and raised in Orange, California. He attended El Modena High School where he was a High School All-American. Freeman decided not to attend college to play for baseball powerhouse Cal State Fullerton but, instead join the Braves organization immediately. Freddie Freeman plays primarily 1st base but can also play third and has been known to pitch from time to time in high school.

The Braves were proud to have one of the most dominant prospects that the Arizona Fall League has seen in the 2008 season with Tommy Hanson taking charge of what is usually known as a hitters’ league. The Braves will be sending another rising star as Freddie Freeman prepares to play in the AFL. The Braves anticipate him playing 1st base for the organization. At such a young age, it is said that his hitting skills are extremely well developed for this point in his career.

Scouting reports show that he has a solid awareness of the strike zone and an innate ability to recognize pitches which allows him to drive the ball further on multiple occasions. While he did not drive the ball far as frequently during his stay in the South Atlantic league, he produced run scoring hits when it counted. Freeman we awarded both mid-season and the post-season All-Star recognition and was the South Atlantic League’s player of the week for two weeks in a row in the month of July.

There is no doubt that Freddie Freeman will be a player to watch after finishing fourth in average, hits, extra-base hits and RBIs as well as second in the South Atlantic League in slugging percentage.
